May Month in Review: Counting Down to the Deadlines

Counting Down to the Deadlines
Thursday, May 26th

Dear Members and Friends,

As the school year comes to a close, we’re planning a “work hard, play hard” summer preparing for payment reform
with deadlines to meet and regulatory comments to make. We need your help!

Our first summer deadline is just around the corner. June 8th marks the date that health plans and state Medicaid agencies must sign up to participate with Medicare in the new Comprehensive Primary Care Plus (CPC+) initiative. CPC+ is the largest-ever multi-payer initiative designed to transform and improve how primary care is delivered and paid for nationwide, incorporating lessons learned from the original CPC program (termed CPC classic). CMS intends to select 20 CPC+ regions according to where there is sufficient interest from multiple private and public payers. PCPCC strongly encourages health plans and Medicaid agencies to demonstrate their commitment to high-performing primary care by submitting a payer proposal to partner with CMS. Please urge your state Medicaid agencies and regional and national health plans to participate.

Also looming is the June 27th deadline to submit comments to CMS on the Medicare Access and Chip Reauthorization Act (MACRA) proposed rule, outlining Medicare’s new quality and payment reform details. The PCPCC’s collective effort to coordinate a thoughtful, unified response to the proposed rule is critical given MACRA’s significant role in setting primary care payment and performance measurement requirements for years to come. PCPCC executive members have the opportunity to help shape our comments to CMS on this historic shift in health care payment by joining us on Friday, June 3 for a discussion of the proposed regulations. If you are an executive member, please join us and make your voice heard.

We are also counting down the months to when we can play hard too. This year marks the PCPCC’s 10th anniversary, with a festive celebration of our collective efforts to promote high-performing primary care across the country. Get a sneak peek at further details below, and submit your nominations for your favorite primary care promoters of the past decade. We want to hear from you! Who do you know that deserves a special shout out for supporting primary care, our primary cause? We will showcase nominees & nominators at the conference, which will feature a new and improved format and an exciting, engaging agenda. It is sure to be our best yet!

Happy Summer!

June 2nd Webinar:
The Role of Leadership in Creating a Culture of Patient- and Family-Centered Care
Topic: Having engaged and committed leadership is essential for driving the practice transformation outlined in the TCPI change package. But what does “engaged and committed leadership” look like day-to-day in the office?

Hosted by our partners at Planetree, this webinar will address these questions and examine the critical role practice leaders play in championing and orchestrating change; mentoring and developing staff; and recognizing and acting on the knowledge, insights and input from all staff – and patients and family members – in order to create a culture of continuous quality improvement.

Date: Thursday, June 2nd, 2:00 - 3:15pm ET

Presenters:
  • Sara Guastello, Director of Knowledge Management, Planetree
  • Dael Waxman, MD, Interim Chair, Department of Family Medicine, Carolinas HealthCare System
