PCPCC to Honor Dr. Richard Baron with Barbara Starfield Award at Annual Conference

October 7, 2013 (Washington, DC)  - The Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative (PCPCC) will host its Annual Conference on October 13 – 15 in Bethesda, MD, including over a dozen panels and workshops that emphasize the role of primary care in driving health system transformation. The event will also include an award ceremony on Tuesday, October 15th at 8:30 AM, honoring the achievements of Dr. Richard Baron, President & CEO of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), and former Group Director, Seamless Care Models at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (CMMI).

The award is co-sponsored by WellPoint, Inc. and IBM, and was established in 2012 to honor the work of Dr. Barbara Starfield. Dr. Starfield’s distinguished career at Johns Hopkins University spanned over five decades, and included seminal research highlighting the critical role of primary care in improving health care quality, access to care, and reducing health care costs. Dr. Starfield passed away in June 2011.
